My fondest memory of elementary school was music time. We always traveled from our little classroom to another little classroom where we were able to spend 30-45 minutes singing silly songs and playing silly games. Our music teacher was the greatest… it is because of her that music is my life. It is also because of her that I know how to spell Halloween. I didn’t like her classroom during Halloween but I did like the songs. You know, “One little Ghost”…”Candy Corn, whopper in my bag”, “Halloween”–maybe not? The one song I actually remember, keep in mind this is from first grade, is the spelling one:

H – A – double L – O – W – double E – N” spells Halloween,

“H – A – double L – O – W – double E – N” spells Halloween!

Halloween means ghosts & goblins,

Skeletons, monsters, & howling cats,

Spooky masks & jack-o-lanterns,

Witches & devils & big, black bats!

“H – A – double L – O – W – double E – N” spells Halloween,

“H – A – double L – O – W – double E – N” spells Halloween!

Halloween means ringing doorbells,

Scaring the people who open the door.

“Trick or treat” gets you candy and apples,

Then go to the next house and get some more.

“H – A – double L – O – W – double E – N” spells Halloween,

“H – A – double L – O – W – double E – N” spells

The most fond memory I have of Halloween is singing this song in her class after she fetched my teacher to take us back. She enjoyed having us in her classroom, or else she put on a magnificent façade, and always made going back to home room a game. She would “put us to sleep” and tell us to stay asleep until out home room teacher woke us. After the teacher woke us this particular Halloween, we sung this song to the teacher about 5 times and then went back to class giggling. Oh the joys of innocence and childhood!!
